Recent IRS Developments – Civil and Criminal Tax Penalties

Steven L. Walker will be presenting before the San Francisco Tax Club. This program will cover important developments with respect to practice before the Internal Revenue Service, including (1) recent guidance from the Internal Revenue Service in response to the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, (2) new proposed regulations dealing with contractor summons participation, (3) updates on IRS passport program, (4) Coinbase case dealing with summons enforcement action on virtual currency, (5) Bedrosian case dealing with FBAR penalties, and (6) a new code section 162(f) dealing with the deductibility of restitution payments.

Steven L. Walker will participate in a panel titled, “Protecting Your Client Against the Issuance of a Summons and Summons Enforcement.”  Panelists will explore the different types of summons that can be issued in both civil and criminal cases, the scope of the summons power, and how the issuance of summonses can affect the statute of limitations on assessment.
