Jaeyoung Lee

Attorney

Overview

Jaeyoung Lee is an attorney at the Law Offices of Steven L. Walker, PLC. He graduated from UC Davis School of Law in 2021 with a Tax Certificate. The Certificate was awarded for his concentrated exposure to tax law and paper examining California’s penalty regime in light of National Federation of Independent Business v. Sebelius. He has also received the Dean’s Merit Scholarship for all three years in recognition of his achievements throughout his time at law school.

Jae also gained practical experience at law school by defending taxpayers as a legal intern at the California Taxpayer Advocate’s Office. As a legal intern, he took the lead in representing taxpayers before the Office of Tax Appeals. His duties included negotiating with opposing counsel at the Franchise Tax Board, writing briefs for submission to the Office of Tax Appeals, and making oral arguments before the administrative law judges. He is proud that he obtained favorable results for the taxpayers in over 80% of his cases.

Before law school, Jae received his B.A. (cum laude) in Philosophy from Washington University in St. Louis. He received Latin honors for his dissertation, “Motivational Internalism and the Amoralist Challenge: An Alternative Understanding.” In 2016, he also received the Helen Stenner Memorial Prize for his essay on J.S. Mill’s responses to deontological criticisms of Utilitarianism.

In his free time, Jae enjoys shooting clays and keeping his interest in philosophy alive by reading books and articles on metaethics and other topics of interest.
