Philip Wolf, Esq. Co-Teaches Class on U.S. Chile Tax Treaty Before Chilean-American Chamber in Tax
Walker-Law is pleased to announce that attorney Philip Wolf (who is also a regular columnist for the prestigious international magazine Tax Notes) was recently invited to Chile to co-teach a class on the U.S.-Chile Tax Treaty in front of members of the Chilean-American Chamber of Commerce and the professional group Women in Tax Chile. The class was taught entirely in Spanish in Santiago, Chile.
Among other topics, the class focused on the complexities of international tax audits and litigation, and how the U.S.-Chile Tax Treaty may impact these areas. Wolf also emphasized the challenges faced by taxpayers during tax audits and litigation spearheaded by the IRS or California taxing agencies such as the Franchise Tax Board (FTB), the Employment Development Department (EDD), and the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration (CDTFA). He highlighted common areas of dispute, including sourcing, income classification, the proper application of treaty benefits, employment disputes, transactions involving real estate, and transfer pricing.
Wolf also provided strategies for navigating tax controversies, including how to effectively respond to audit inquiries, utilize dispute resolution mechanisms, and minimize the risk of double taxation. His insights are based on his experience resolving controversies before the IRS, FTB, EDD, and CDTFA. Congratulations, Philip!
